The Arizona Cardinals are down another starter on offense and this injury is for the rest of the season. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz, after making a catch against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, injured his knee and had to be carted off the field.
It looked serious.
Initial reports were optimistic he would be able to return before the end of the season but that is not the case.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ertz’ knee injury is season-ending.
This is a blow to the passing game. He had 47 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns through 10 games and was well on his way to setting the franchise record for the most receptions in a season by a tight end. His 56 catches in 11 games last season tied the single-season mark.
His 47 receptions and four touchdown catches lead the team through 10 games.
He will end up on injured reserve and perhaps Maxx Williams will be signed from the practice squad to replace him. It is another opportunity for rookie Trey McBride to play in a larger role.
He is under contract two more seasons after 2022.
