Cardinals free agency outlook: QB Brett Hundley

The veteran quarterback is unlikely to be re-signed in 2021.

One of the many inpending unrestricted free agents the Arizona Cardinals have is quarterback Brett Hundley. Will he be back in 2021?

After signing with the Cardinals in 2019 and serving as the team’s backup quarterback, he re-signed in 2020 on a veteran minimum deal. However, Chris Streveler beat him out as the backup and Hundley spent all 16 games of the season inactive.

His 2020 contract was almost completely guaranteed, so cutting him save no money and, as a veteran in the league and a player who was liked in the locker room, he had value in the quarterback room.

Now entering free agency again, he is unlikely to return. The Arizona native will need to look elsewhere if his NFL career is to continue.

The Cardinals have their starting quarterback. It appears they like Streveler as the backup. There isn’t room on the roster for Hundley and they will likely add a rookie or young quarterback to develop.

Hundley’s 2021 return: doubtful
