Will Allen do enough to warrant the team picking up his fifth-year option?

The Bills made the heavens move to draft Allen. With all of the trades and transactions, one might think he is a shoo-in for the team to pick up his fifth-year option. Anything different might be considered a failure of this front office by exchanging so many assets for the quarterback.

However, the Beane-McDermott regime has been very measured with their approach toward, well, basically everything at One Bills Drive. There’s nothing to contrary to think that they would steer off course with this decision.

Case in point: the Chicago Bears traded up to draft Mitchell Trubisky in 2017. The Bears declined his fifth-year option.

Allen should be a part of the team’s future for a long time. However, if there’s any sort of regression in his game, the Bills may need to question if they guarantee Allen’s spot on this roster for a longer period of time. If Allen does have a big campaign, then Buffalo would be looking to lock up their franchise quarterback with a long-term contract.

This year’s going to be a make-or-break one for Allen in terms of his fifth-year option.
