Browns QB Baker Mayfield tests positive for COVID-19, likely out vs. Raiders

The Cleveland Browns are in the middle of an outbreak for COVID-19. On Tuesday, they placed eight players on the reserve/COVID-19 list, including multiple starters on offense.

On Wednesday, the team announced that head coach Kevin Stefanski tested positive for COVID-19. However, that wasn’t the only big name that tested positive this morning.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, quarterback Baker Mayfield tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and he is likely out for Week 15 against the Raiders. That means veteran Case Keenum will be the starter against Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon.

It’s been a tough year for Mayfield as he’s dealt with multiple injuries, including a torn labrum on his non-throwing shoulder. However, the Browns sit at 7-6 and still have a shot of winning AFC North after defeating the Ravens in Week 14. This is a big blow to a team firmly in the playoff hunt in the AFC.

Needless to say, the Browns are going to be severely shorthanded this week against the Raiders in what boils down to a must-win game for both teams. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
