Brooklyn Nets player grades: Kyrie Irving impresses in return as Nets come back to beat Pacers

The Brooklyn Nets came back from down 19 points to win in guard Kyrie Irving’s season debut.

The Brooklyn Nets stormed back from down 19 points to beat the Indiana Pacers 129-121 in guard Kyrie Irving’s return to action. The Nets survived a rough first half to get the comeback win at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Nets improved to 24-12 with the win and broke a three-game losing skid in the process.

Brooklyn’s defense struggled in the first half, allowing 73 points in the opening 24 minutes. They struggled to stop the Pacers in the paint, allowing Indiana to shoot 16-for-22 on two-point attempts in the first half and 10-for-20 from three. Stephenson and Domantas Sabonis combined for 42 first-half points, 20 of which came on a first-quarter shooting display from Lance Stephenson in his return to Indiana. Sabonis finished with his third career triple-double against the Nets, with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Stephenson finished with 30.

The defense was much improved in the second half as they outscored Indiana 69 to 48 en route to the comeback win. Brooklyn feasted inside the arc as well, shooting 22-for-27 on two-point attempts in the second half. Even without the benefit of a consistent outside game, the Nets were able to rally for the win.
