Broncos WR Courtland Sutton fined for penalty in Week 2

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton was fined $10,609 for an unnecessary roughness penalty in Week 2.

The NFL fined Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton $10,609 for an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Houston Texans in Week 2, according to USA TODAY’s Parker Gabriel.

Sutton was penalized after a late out-of-bounds hit against Houston. Besides that penalty, Sutton had a great game against the Texans, catching seven passes for 122 yards in a 16-9 victory.

“His penalty on the sideline [was something that] he regrets big-time, but you can see the competitor nature,” offensive coordinator Justin Outten said Thursday.

“Every time he catches an explosive pass, he’s getting up, he’s competing. You can’t coach that, that is something that is drilled into you, that’s something that is ingrained in you and it just continues. That a guy in that room that’s a big leader and we are leaning on him in the skill position.”

Sutton will aim to have another big game when the Broncos host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.
