Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is drawing head coach interest this offseason, with two HC interviews completed and at least one more on deck.
The Broncos and Indianapolis Colts have already interviewed Evero for their HC openings, and the Houston Texans plan to next week. Denver can’t prevent Evero from accepting a promotion elsewhere, but they can block other teams from offering him a lateral move since he’s still under contract.
The Atlanta Falcons asked the Broncos for permission to interview Evero as a defensive coordinator candidate and Denver denied the request, The Denver Post‘s Parker Gabriel reported on Friday evening. Atlanta is seeking a new DC following Dean Pees’s retirement.
If Evero is going to be a DC in 2023, the Broncos want it to be in Denver. That could change, of course, if the team’s next head coach wants to bring in a different DC. For now, though, Evero is still the Broncos’ DC, and they’re not going to allow other teams to poach him for a non-HC job.
