Brick wall: Former Hawkeye Tristan Wirfs grading as best pass blocker in the NFL

Iowa produces great linemen and Tristan Wirfs is up there with the best. The former Hawkeye is grading as the best pass blocker in the NFL.

Few teams can bring in recruits and develop them the way that the Iowa Hawkeyes can. Tristan Wirfs is a prime example of this process and his successes are undeniable.

The first-team All-American at Iowa was highly touted on his way to the NFL and has continued to dominate there. The 13th overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has proven to essentially be a brick wall at left tackle protecting quarterbacks.

Six weeks into the 2023 NFL season, Wirfs is playing some of the best football of his career. Pro Football Focus has Tristan Wirfs graded as the best pass blocker in the NFL this season.

Tristan Wirfs is no stranger to success. His list of accolades at Iowa goes on longer than a Costco receipt. In his fourth year in the NFL, he is racking up recognition as well. He is a two-time Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022, a first-team AP All-Pro in 2021 and a Super Bowl Champion in 2021.

Wirfs protected Tom Brady during the 2021 season and played a critical part in their success that year. As Wirfs now protects Baker Mayfield, he is well on his way to another Pro Bowl and setting himself up for another run at the All-Pro team.
