As Iowa (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) gears up to square off against Missouri (9-3, 5-3 SEC) on Monday in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl, the Hawkeyes will do so with junior quarterback Brendan Sullivan back in the fold.
Sidelined for the regular season’s final two games with an ankle injury, Sullivan has returned to the equation fully healthy and will start against Missouri.
Moving forward into the 2025 season, Sullivan could very well be the Hawkeyes’ starting quarterback next year.
Still, Iowa has continued to try to seek additions to its quarterbacks room this month via the transfer portal. Meeting with Iowa reporters on Friday, though, Sullivan said he welcomes more additions into Iowa’s quarterbacking room.
“Yeah, Coach Lester’s super transparent. Obviously, you see it on social media, too, but he’s super transparent. That’s the name of the game these days. You’ve got to compete. If you’re scared to compete, then you shouldn’t be playing the game. And so I’m here, staying, playing for Iowa and I’m going to continue to compete to the best of my abilities,” Sullivan said.
Iowa has been open about its plans to add another QB in the portal. Brendan Sullivan remains unfazed.

With the departures of Cade McNamara, Marco Lainez and James Resar to the transfer portal, Iowa needed to rebuild its quarterback room and took a step in that direction with the addition of former Auburn quarterback Hank Brown.
The Hawkeyes didn’t want to stop there, though. Iowa offered and hosted former Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula before he ultimately signed with Missouri.
Iowa also signed quarterback Jimmy Sullivan in its 2025 class and he and Brown have been working with the Hawkeyes during the team’s final bowl practices.
