Brandon Turnage named SEC Defensive Player of the Week

Vols’ defensive back Brandon Turnage named SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

Brandon Turnage, who led the Volunteers in tackles in its 45-20 Southeastern Conference victory over South Carolina Saturday at Neyland Stadium, was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Turnage, a redshirt sophomore defensive back from Oxford, Mississippi, made a career-high 14 tackles to help the Vols (4-2, 2-1 SEC) notch their second consecutive win.

The Lafayette High School graduate, who previously played at Alabama, started against the Gamecocks (3-3, 0-3) in place of  Theo Jackson, UT’s leading tackler, who missed the contest due to injury.

The Vols return to action when they host Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1 SEC) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised on SEC Network.

The Rebels are coached by former Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin.
