Bob Stoops has been here before.
Stoops lost his starting quarterback 10 years ago just a stone’s throw from where he lost Landry Jones to injury this afternoon.
Sam Bradford was driven into the ground by BYU the opening weekend of the 2009 Oklahoma Sooners’ season at AT&T Stadium, forcing the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner to miss the rest of the season.
Jones, a freshman, came in to replace Bradford in a baptism by fire as he went six of twelve for 51 yards in the 14-13 loss to the Cougars.
Today, it was Jones’ season that may have came to an end.
With 4:42 left in the game, Jones was leading the Renegades down the field when he was rolled up on, leaving the field in immense pain.
Once down 15-0, Jones had the Renegades in striking distance down 27-20 when he left the game. On the subsequent play, Dallas’ back up Phillip Nelson threw turned the ball over on an acrobatic interception off the hands of his intended receiver with two minutes left in the game, effectively handing the win to the Roughnecks.

“No one here is against each other, no one’s pointing fingers at anybody else,” Stoops said to his team postgame.
Jones threw three interceptions on the first three Renegades possessions, leading to Houston taking a 15-11 lead into the half.
Down 21-20 in the fourth, the Roughnecks forced a sack-fumble returned for a touchdown to give Houston a 27-20 lead that they would preserve for the win.
Dallas has a short week as they host the New York Guardians on Saturday at Globe Life Park at 4p.m. CT. The game will be broadcasted on FOX.
