Blazers’ phenom to the Ducks? Dan Lanning wants to see it happen

Blazers’ rookie Scoot Henderson wanted to play football for the Ducks growing up. Leave it to Lanning to try and recruit him.

There is a lot going on in the world of Oregon sports this summer.

While we have been focused on the happenings or the Oregon Ducks, and their current tear on the recruiting trail, the ins and outs of the Portland Trail Blazers has been quite dramatic over the past month.

While Blazers’ legend Damian Lillard requested a trade on Saturday, the team still has a hopefully bright future centered around incoming phenom Scoot Henderson, the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Many agree that in any other draft — one where athletic alien Victor Wembanyama is not available — then the guy Portland got at No. 3 could have easily been the No. 1 overall pick.

In interviews with the team down at Summer League in Las Vegas, Henderson was asked about his relationship with the state of Oregon. He admitted that when he was growing up, his dream was to play football for the Ducks.

As you would expect, it didn’t take long for Ducks’ head coach Dan Lanning to try and recruit him to Eugene.

At 6-foot-4, 195 pounds, you could imagine that Henderson would make a rangy but physical safety who could punish receivers over the middle. Henderson didn’t play basketball in college, but instead went into the G-Leauge out of high school.
