Bill Bedenbaugh lands his big fish as Top 100 tackle Cayden Green commits to Oklahoma

After months of speculation, the Sooners finally closed the deal on four-star offensive tackle prospect of Cayden Green who committed Friday.

After months and months of speculation, Bill Bedenbaugh’s number one target of the 2023 cycle is finally a Sooner. 2023 four-star offensive tackle Cayden Green committed to Oklahoma on Friday evening live on CBS Sports HQ.

Green becomes the 12th commitment for the Sooners #CHO23N class and continues to keep the Sooners white-hot on the recruiting trail.

This is the Sooners’ third commitment this week alone as four-star receiver Jaquaize Pettaway and three-star linebacker Phil Picciotti hopped on board.

Green is a proper offensive tackle with a build that would allow him to slide inside and play guard if needed but all signs point to him getting a fair shake to play offensive tackle as he makes his way to college.

Green had been trending to Oklahoma for months and after multiple unofficial visits and his official visit, the sense was that it just seemed insurmountable for anyone else and the predictions rolled in. Green remained steadfast to play out the rest of the recruiting process but ultimately the Sooners came out on top over longtime rival Nebraska, LSU, and the in-state school, Missouri.

Green is nationally ranked as the No. 92 ranked player in 247’s composite rankings while also being considered the 12th best offensive tackle and the third-best player in the state of Missouri. He becomes the first Top 100 offensive line recruit for Bill Bedenbaugh since Savion Byrd committed and signed to Oklahoma. Byrd was ranked 64th in the 2021 class.

Cayden Green joins fellow offensive linemen Joshua Bates and Heath Ozaeta in the 2023 class.

With Green in now, the Sooners turn their focus to landing Logan Howland, an underrated offensive line prospect out of New Jersey. A commitment from Howland paired with Green’s would essentially wrap up Oklahoma’s offensive line recruiting for the class of 2023 giving Bill Bedenbaugh the chance to move on and look to the 2024 class.
