Are Boston Celtics better than last year going all-in on offense?

They say defense wins championships, but what about historic offenses?

They say defense wins championships, but despite having a league-leading defense for much of the 2021-22 NBA season, the Boston Celtics fell short of an NBA title by two wins. Now, to start off their 2022-23 campaign, the Celtics have flipped the script on last season by taking it a step further in an entirely new direction by putting together a historically dominant offense.

Their top-ranked defense has taken a hit as a result, now a middling defense on most nights. But in exchange for the shift in focus under interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, Boston has since become the hottest team in the league in the early going of this season.

To talk over the shift, Chris Mannix, Brian Scalabrine, and Chris Herring got together on the latest episode of The Volume’s YouTube Channel podcast “3 Points with Chris Mannix”.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.
