Anthony Davis could return for Lakers on Wednesday

Anthony Davis’ return to the Lakers’ lineup is pretty much imminent at this point.

The last several days have been good for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They overcame big deficits to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies, who had been the NBA’s hottest team, on Friday and the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. The two wins stopped a slide in which L.A. had lost four of its last five games.

Then on Monday, it was announced the team had traded for young forward Rui Hachimura while giving up a minimal package of Kendrick Nunn and three second-round draft picks. Hachimura will help plug a big hole at both forward positions.

The Lakers received progressively better news over the past week on Anthony Davis, who has been recovering from a stress injury in his right foot. In fact, he may return as soon as Wednesday, when they host the San Antonio Spurs.

Davis’ return cannot come too soon. The Lakers will play the Boston Celtics on the road on Saturday. That contest will be the first of a difficult five-game road trip that also includes games against the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans.
