Analysis: Due to the injuries to Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillon, Shane Lee was pressed into action as true freshman.

He had a successful season from a statistical standpoint, finishing second on the team in tackles with 86 while also adding 6.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles. But there were also some struggles mixed in there as well.

Between the ears, Lee gets it and showed advanced instincts for a first-year player. But athletically, there’s a lot left to be desired from a fluidity standpoint and COD (change of direction) skills. Still, Lee is a valuable player for Alabama heading into the 2020 season.

His experience and strengths should help him continue to carve out a role into certain situations that play to those strengths, but he also won’t have to play in situations that will exploit his weaknesses — at least not the same degree as last season.

If Lee could get south of 240 pounds, that could help his overall explosiveness. But either way, expect him to continue to be a part of the Crimson Tide’s plans this season.
