Vols Wire revisits Tennessee’s, 88-83, overtime victory against UConn in the 1996 NCAA Tournament Final Four. The contest took place on March 29, 1996 at Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Tennessee’s win in the national semifinals avenged a loss to the Huskies during the 1995 NCAA Tournament national championship game.

Michelle Marciniak totaled 21 points, seven rebounds, six assists for the Lady Vols. She converted two free throws to give Tennessee a 75-72 lead with 12.9 seconds remaining in regulation.

Nykeshia Sales converted a three-point field goal for UConn to tie the game at the end of regulation.

The Lady Vols outscored UConn, 13-8, in overtime.

Tennessee advanced to play Georgia in the NCAA Tournament national championship game.

Tennessee defeated the Bulldogs, 83-65, to win its fourth national championship under head coach Pat Summitt.
