It’s no secret that there’s a ton of money floating around college football, and broadcasters rely on advertisers, like any other sport.
But sometimes, it seems like the commercial breaks are way too frequent, like Saturday during Fox’s broadcast of the Ohio State-Indiana game. That’s understandably very frustrating when you feel like you’re being inundated with more ads than football.
Of course, there are always a lot of commercial breaks in college football, but — whether or not it’s accurate or just a perception — it certainly felt like there were more than usual in the first half of this game in Columbus. And college football fans were getting annoyed with very little patience for all the breaks.
Among the many complaints from fans seemed to be the sequence of a commercial break, kickoff, commercial break, and it seems like it’s worse if it’s toward the end of a quarter or half. That’s not a new sequence from broadcasters, but it’s still annoying.
College football fans vented their frustrations on Twitter, and it became clear that a lot of them felt like there were more commercial breaks than usual Saturday.

Another commercial! Someone should send this game tape to the judge deciding if there’s going to be revenue sharing. Players deserve millions. https://t.co/dCXMjUdy0P

This OSU-Indiana first half feels like it was 20 minutes long.
With 15 minutes of commercials.

Really love that timeout-commercial break-one play-end of quarter commercial break sequence. Reminds me why I love college football.

The actual game to commercial rate is crazy right now.

I’ve seen so many people complain about Big Noon Kickoff games…but my only complaint is that they never run enough commercials.
It’s just way too much football for me. Give me more commercials. FOX is doing this right!!

"Oh hey, Let's get some more commercials in" – says no one ever.

Fox just went to a 5 minute commercial break with 10 seconds left in the quarter to come back and run one play then run another 5 min commercial break. Fix modern programming this is a joke. #ohiostate #indiana

Why go to a full commercial break after a timeout with 8 seconds left in the quarter? Fox is doing horrible, horrible things to college football with this entire farcical production

I'm really sick of football games going to commercial break, showing the kickoff, then going to another commercial break. @FOXSports
