Ioanna Paptheodorou has emerged as a clutch goal-scoring forward for the Washington Huskies this season. It seems as if her homeland of Greece wants her to bring some of that magic to their team, as they have called her up to play on the national team in the next round of qualifiers for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Cup.
This is the Washington senior’s second time representing her county after making her debut in 2020. Paptheodorou transferred to Washington in 2023 after spending two years at UMass Lowell. Now in her senior year on Montlake, she has emerged as the team’s leading scorer and has the highest shot-on-goal percentage.
The Greek national team will meet Belgium in Crete, Greece on October 28, then head to Leuven, Belgium on October 29 for a second matchup.
Coach Nicole Van Dyke’s team didn’t miss a beat in their first game without her, earning a first round bye in the Big Ten tournament after they knocked off Oregon on Sunday by a final score of 3-0.
