Duke football doesn’t receive a single vote in AP Top 25 despite undefeated start

The Associated Press released its top 25 ranking after Week 5 of the college football season on Sunday, and Duke didn’t make a single ballot.

The Associated Press released its updated college football rankings on Sunday, and despite the Duke Blue Devils starting with five straight wins, head coach [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag] and his team didn’t receive a single vote.

The Blue Devils marched back against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday, scoring the final 21 points of the game for the second-largest comeback in school history. Duke also beat Northwestern on the road in overtime in Week 2, and Diaz’s team is one of three undefeated teams left in the ACC, but the AP voters opted instead to include three other squads from the conference.

The Alabama Crimson Tide jumped over the Texas Longhorns for the No. 1 spot in the rankings after they beat the Georgia Bulldogs in a 41-34 classic. Quarterback Jalen Milroe moved into pole position as the Heisman Trophy favorite after he finished with 374 passing yards, 117 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns.

The Miami Hurricanes, who outlasted a last-second upset effort from Virginia Tech on Friday night, dropped one spot to eighth. Mario Cristobal’s team remained the highest-ranked team from the conference, followed by the Clemson Tigers at 15th and the Louisville Cardinals at 22nd.
