New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is planning to stick with quarterback Jacoby Brissett, following the team’s 24-3 loss to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.
Brissett struggled throughout the game going 12-of-18 passing for 98 yards. Granted, it wasn’t just the quarterback who struggled. The offensive line had a rough night overall in a game where they allowed seven sacks and 15 quarterback hits.
Brissett has 368 passing yards and a touchdown on the season. His 52.5 quarterback rating ranks 17th in the NFL.
Rookie Drake Maye was able to see action late in the fourth quarter. He went 4-of-8 passing for 22 yards on one drive. Some have wondered if the team would shift to Maye as the starter, but Mayo stuck by Brissett when speaking with the media on Friday.
“Jacoby is our quarterback until he’s not the quarterback. I thought last night he showed a lot of toughness, a lot of grit,” said Mayo, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

That toughness and grit were certainly on display as Brissett got pummeled behind the Patriots’ struggling offensive line. It has never been a question of if, but it has always been a question of when the Patriots will put the rookie quarterback under center.
