Through the first three games of the season, Northwestern transfer wide receiver Jacob Gill has blossomed quickly for the Iowa Hawkeyes and seems to have found his niche in Tim Lester’s new offense.
After a slow career at Northwestern, Gill is on pace to surpass his career totals in the next game or two and has become Cade McNamara’s favorite target through the early part of the season.
Kirk Ferentz was asked about how Gill has adjusted quickly after only joining the team in June and how he has found success so quickly.
“It’s a credit to him because to your point, I think the most significant point is he got here in June, late, newcomer, wanted to finish up school at his previous stop. I think it’s a real credit to him. He’s a little bit like Nick Jackson or Rusty Feth a year ago, came in after spring ball, but those guys really got up to speed fast, and I think the biggest thing is everything about him is really impressive.”
“He’s just a very mature, serious, focused guy, and that’s a room that was lacking of experience and lacking production,” Ferentz said about Gill’s ability to come in and contribute right away.
Through the first three contests, Jacob Gill is Iowa’s leading receiver. He has reeled in 12 catches for 137 yards and one touchdown.
