Kyle Busch’s future with Richard Childress Racing receives a big update in 2024

Kyle Busch’s future with Richard Childress Racing receives a big update in 2024. What does Busch’s future look like amid a down year?

[autotag]Kyle Busch[/autotag] is currently sitting outside of the playoff picture. Entering the NBC Sports portion of the season, Busch is eight points behind Bubba Wallace for the final playoff spot. However, is the Richard Childress Racing driver’s future secured in the No. 8 car? It appears that Busch will be sticking around with Richard Childress Racing.

Catchfence’s Lee Spencer appeared on the Performance Racing Network and discussed Busch’s contract situation with Richard Childress Racing. Spencer also commented on Busch’s relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing with if he didn’t return to Richard Childress Racing.

“I’ve heard that had [Kyle Busch] not had another year left on his contract; he might have been in consideration to go back to Joe Gibbs Racing, which I think would’ve been phenomenal.

“I asked Kyle Busch, once the rumblings started, we started knowing that seats were gonna start being open, and this was even before the Stewart-Haas Racing thing. I asked him at Kansas Speedway, ‘What’s your contract situation for next year?’ He said, ‘I’m still under contract.’ He signed a deal that was two years and an option, and I verified that with the front office at [Richard Childress Racing]. Had that not been the case, my guess is he would’ve been first in line to go back to Joe Gibbs Racing, but now that is another seat that’s open.”

It would be shocking to see Busch leave Richard Childress Racing, but if not for that contract option, he could have returned to Joe Gibbs Racing. Spencer also thinks Martin Truex Jr. will end up retiring, so that’s an open seat in silly season. Busch seems to be secured at Richard Childress Racing, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens after the 2025 season.
