New USC quarterback came close to tying Joe Burrow’s record

What a debut performance in his first collegiate start.

If there is one quarterback who set the standard for dominance in a bowl performance, it is former LSU gunslinger Joe Burrow.

Against the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2019-20 Chick fil a Peach Bowl, he threw a record seven touchdowns as the Tigers punched their ticket to the CFP national championship. They would defeat Clemson to claim the school’s fourth national championship.

With no Caleb Williams as he opted out to prepare for the NFL draft and Malachi Nelson entering the transfer portal, the USC Trojans went with Miller Moss. The redshirt sophomore put on a show in his first collegiate start while also sending a message to any quarterback thinking of transferring to Southern California.

Moss came just one touchdown short of tying Burrow for the most touchdown passes in a bowl game. He finished with 372 yards and six touchdowns with one interception. Moss averaged 11.3 yards per attempt as the Trojans took care of the Louisville Cardinals in San Diego.

Head coach Lincoln Riley raved about how much fun it was in the 42-28 victory. “Honestly, all the years and wins and stuff, this was as fun a win as I can remember as a head coach.”

Moss connected with nine different receivers on Wednesday night. Makai Lemon showed flashes of just how dynamic he can be for the Trojans offense moving forward. He racked up 33 yards after the catch on two receptions. Tahj Washington led all receivers with 99 yards on seven receptions with two touchdowns.

As USC now focuses on joining the Big Ten for the 2024 college football season, it appears that Miller Moss made a statement for why he should be considered the next Trojans starting quarterback.
