Well, it’s time to have this conversation once again.
Florida State’s Board of Trustees met after 10 a.m. on Friday to discuss the program’s future and ways they can get out of the ACC’s Grant of Rights deal with ESPN. All of this led to a lawsuit, and Clemson fans wonder where we stand in all of this and how our future in the ACC looks right now.
To be completely transparent, I won’t pretend I can predict the future here because I can’t. I will, however, do my best to break down the possibilities here and how this all can affect the Tigers.
Right now, Clemson and Florida State don’t seem to be going about this with a hand-in-hand approach. It does not seem like Clemson plans to do anything similar to what the Seminoles are doing right now, but it will continue to fly under the radar and get things done behind the scenes.
From reports I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound like this Florida State news was a shock to Clemson, which leads me to believe there was open communication before FSU took action. From my perspective, that’s a good sign, but again, it doesn’t mean Clemson will follow the same path.
People often don’t think about how different this process would be to begin with for the Tigers, who in the state of South Carolina have laws different from Florida’s. Even if the Tigers were to go about this a similar way, which they won’t, it would be different.
So what does this all mean right now, and how will it affect Clemson? At this point, it’s a waiting game. Clemson is moving in silence like lasagna here, while Florida State is kicking the door until they kick it open. If they do manage to kick open that door and make a move, that’s when things will open up for Clemson, and the floodgates will open.
Hang tight, Clemson fans; it’s anyone’s guess where this is going.
