NASCAR’s practice, qualifying format revealed for 2024 season

NASCAR’s practice and qualifying format for the 2024 season has been revealed. Check out the major details for next year’s sessions!

NASCAR hasn’t officially announced a return of the current practice and qualifying format, but the tentative schedules indicate that a return is coming. According to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass, the practice-qualifying single-session format will return for most races in 2024. There will be exceptions, such as the Daytona 500, new events, and the Championship 4 event.

Some within the sport believe a 50-minute practice session would be more beneficial as it allows teams to work on the car. However, the TV networks have an easier time broadcasting the events as they all occur within one time. Still, it should be about what the teams and drivers think is best moving forward.

After all, it is better than when NASCAR moved away from practice and qualifying during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new system allows some pre-race on-track action, which is better than none at all. Hopefully, NASCAR will decide to make a change during the 2025 season as the new TV deal begins with a new broadcasting format.
