NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets had a tall task ahead of them as they had to face an Orlando Magic team that had come into Saturday night’s game on a nine-game winning streak. The Nets were able to prevent the Magic from making franchise history thanks in large part to Bridges’ effort.
“I was ready to play, just didn’t like that loss against Charlotte (Hornets,” Bridges said after scoring 42 points in Saturday’s 129-101 win over Orlando that snapped the Magic’s winning streak in dominating fashion. Bridges scored 26 points in the first quarter, putting him in the company of players like Vince Carter, Kevin Durant, and Luka Doncic. Even if he wouldn’t say it, Bridges let it slip why he was so motivated to beat the Magic.
“Obviously, I don’t want them to get history on our court,” Bridges explained. His scoring slowed down significantly after the first quarter as played like Spencer Dinwiddie (22 points) and Cam Thomas (20 points) started to get going themselves. However, Bridges started to impact the game on the defensive end of the floor as he also picked up one steal and three blocks, including a huge one on Magic star Paolo Banchero.
“Nah, just competing,” Bridges said. While he was a big part of the Nets beating the Magic so thoroughly, Bridges still gave credit to what Orlando is building. “Orlando is a good team and they’ve been together for a long time. And, they’re been building (a) really good culture,” Bridges said.
