Rutgers comes down to earth, gets physically dominated in loss at No. 22 Iowa

Rutgers football is flat in loss at No. 22 Iowa.

After a week of hype, Rutgers football came out flat on Saturday in a 22-0 loss at No. 22 Iowa. Rutgers got pushed around on both sides of the ball in the loss.

With the loss, Rutgers is now 6-4 (3-4 Big Ten) and has lost two straight games. For a little perspective, it is the first time all season that Rutgers has lost multiple games in a row.

Down just 3-0 at halftime, Rutgers was worn down defensively as the second half went on, giving up three scoring drives in the second half to wrangle a hold of the game.

Last Saturday, Rutgers battled No. 1 Ohio State and held a 9-7 halftime lead and was down by just five points early in the fourth quarter. The idea was that Rutgers was ready to step-up and begin competing regularly with the top teams in the Big Ten.

That didn’t happen on Saturday.

On offense, Rutgers struggled to simply be effective. They managed just 127 yards of total offense, a season-low.

In the second half, quarterback Gavin Wimsatt failed to complete his final eight passes as the offense barely had a pulse.

While it wasn’t a stellar outing from the defense, it is hard to fault a unit that had little to no support from the offense in this one.
