A lot of NBA teams build homegrown talent and play hard and fast — the “right” way — every single night. But I don’t think anyone is as obsessed with telling you they do the bare minimum, what should be expected of any professional sports figures making millions of dollars, as the Miami Heat.
By now, most of us probably understand what “Heat Culture” is. As Max Strus once explained to The Athletic, it’s “whatever the team needs, and there’s no ego about anything … that’s Heat culture.” Heck, the Heat themselves literally have the slogan emblazoned in the upper left-hand corner of their team website. They are not remotely shy about telling everyone they’re somehow special for playing hard.
Now, they want everyone to know with an elaborate “Heat Culture” message on a new edition of their home court. How cringe:

I understand this is likely how the Heat motivate themselves and keep themselves accountable. But the more they talk it up and broadcast it everywhere, it becomes clear they have zero self-awareness about how their commitment to one another isn’t really unique at all.
