Patrick Mahomes was classy after his first career loss to the Broncos

“They beat us, they were a better football team today and I give them their props,” Patrick Mahomes said after his first loss to Broncos.

Patrick Mahomes ate his humble pie on Sunday night.

Going into a Week 8 showdown with the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback had a perfect 12-0 record against his division rival.

That perfect record was snapped on Sunday when the Broncos upset the Chiefs 24-9, breaking a 16-game losing streak against Kansas City that dated back to before Mahomes was drafted.

Mahomes had a classy response after the game — he played through a flu on Sunday, but he didn’t make excuses after losing in Denver. The quarterback credited his opponent and their fans.

“Obviously, I felt the worst I’ve felt walking out of the stadium [mentally],” Mahomes said after the loss. “It’s a great environment, I actually had a lot a lot of fun playing here. The fans are awesome. They enjoy the game and know the game, but it just kind of is what it is. They beat us, they were a better football team today and I give them their props.”

Even after a big win on Sunday, the Broncos are still just 3-5, so they have an uphill climb to fight for a playoff position. If Denver can manage to sneak into the postseason, that could present be their first opportunity to face the Chiefs again. Otherwise, the Broncos will have home and away games against Kansas City again in 2023.

Suddenly, the Broncos-Chiefs matchup feels like a real rivalry again.
