Unlike in basketball, for example, a football team can survive when its best player (quarterbacks excluded) goes down with an injury. While Colorado certainly won’t be the same without cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, who technically counts as two players, the Buffs don’t deserve to be written off against Oregon.
Head coach Deion Sanders constructed this team with an abundance of talent at the skill positions and it’s now time for those behind Hunter to step up. I’m calling on wide receiver Tar’Varish Dawson and cornerback Kyndrich Breedlove, in particular. Both are likely to start this weekend and should play major roles moving forward until Hunter returns.
However, Dawson and Breedlove must also remember that nobody can truly fill Hunter’s shoes. Neither has to be Superman. Clean, consistent games with a flashy play or two will be plenty.
Other Buffs who must step up include Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Cooper and Carter Stoutmire (if healthy).
Colorado and Oregon kickoff at 1:30 p.m. MT on Fox.
