Marvin Mims was the Denver Broncos’ most productive wide receiver in Week 2.
The speedy rookie led the team with 113 receiving yards on two receptions while adding 10 rushing yards and a 45-yard punt return to his totals. Despite his 168-yard performance, Mims got the fewest snaps (21) among Denver’s receivers.
After two big catches in the first half, Mims did not get a single target in the second half of last week’s loss to the Washington Commanders.
“Some of it’s coverage driven, and some of it is just based on what we’re in,” coach Sean Payton explained after the game. “We ended up in a couple different personnel groupings. Part of that is coincidence, I would say. We had a number of guys we were trying to get the ball to, and we’ll keep doing that.”
Payton did not seem overly concerned about Mims’ lack of snaps and zero second-half targets, but the Broncos would be wise to get the rookie more involved on offense going forward.
Playing against an explosive Miami Dolphins offense in Week 3, Denver’s offense could use Mims’ big-play ability on Sunday.
