Tennessee has ‘great confidence’ in Elijah Herring entering SEC play

Tennessee has great confidence in linebacker Elijah Herring entering SEC play.

No. 9 Tennessee (2-0, 0-0 SEC) will open Southeastern Conference play on Saturday at Florida (1-1, 0-0 SEC).

Kickoff between the Vols and Gators is slated for 7 p.m. EDT (ESPN).

Tennessee sophomore linebacker Elijah Herring has recorded nine tackles and 0.5 tackle for a loss in two games in 2023.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed Herring on Monday ahead of SEC play.

“Destructive, communicated at a high level,” Heupel said of Herring. “He’s a young guy that his best football is going to come down the pike. Great confidence in him.”

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound Herring appeared in 13 games for the Vols as a freshman in 2022. He recorded 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and one pass deflection last season.
