Watkins Glen International marks the second straight road course for the NASCAR Cup Series and track position will be important after last weekend’s race at the Indianapolis Road Course. Hamlin’s fast time of 70.392 seconds beat William Byron by 0.190 seconds. Michael McDowell will start third while Ty Gibbs rounds out the second row in fourth place.
As for other drivers positioned around the playoff cut line, Bubba Wallace will start 12th, Daniel Suarez qualified 14th, and Chase Elliott will start 15th.
