Things did not end the way that Florida baseball fans had hoped on Monday night at Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, as the LSU Tigers got revenge for a blowout Game 2 loss with a shellacking of their own of the Gators, 18-4, to earn their seventh College World Series title.
Overall, Florida used six pitchers in Jac Caglianone, Cade Fisher, Ryan Slater, Tyler Nesbitt, Blake Purnell and Fisher Jameson — none of whom were particularly sharp, except Slater before he took a ball off the shin that clearly slowed him down. Cags only made it through 1 1/3 innings, giving up a big lead early and ultimately dooming the Orange and Blue.
Wyatt Langford delivered two early runs for the Gators with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, followed by dingers from Ty Evans and Cade Kurland in the seventh and eighth, respectively, but it was not nearly enough to keep pace with the Tigers.
