The Buffalo Bills have already started to hit the practice field post-life without Tremaine Edmunds.
We’re still not exactly close to finding out who will be the starting at middle linebacker.
During spring practices, the Bills trotted out a linebacker coach Bobby Babich to speak to the media. He addressed the big topic at hand.
But it’s going to be a waiting game to figure out who fills Edmunds’ shoes.
“I think what will happen naturally is there will be a conclusion at some point – I don’t think it’s worth setting a date,” Babich said via video conference. “I don’t think that’s advantageous for anybody. I think the decision on who will be the Day 1 starter in September, it’ll come when it comes, and we’ll know, and our guys will have plenty of reps.”
Throughout the offseason the Bills have maintained that quota about reps.
“Sometimes your answer is on your roster,” general manager Brandon Beane said on replacing Edmunds this spring.
But we did get a bit of a twist during OTAs.
After the draft, the GM also noted that third-round rookie Dorian Williams would be a backup for Matt Milano instead of a candidate to replace Edmunds as a rookie.
However, that was not the case during OTAs. Maybe because there’s so much time between the start of opening day and now, or perhaps Williams has impressed enough to get a shot? Regardless, the rookie was taking reps at Edmunds’ old position, alongside Tyrel Dodson, this spring.
Where Williams lines up throughout the spring and training camp this summer will be watched by many in Buffalo… even if the Bills are in no rush.
