Penn State will not officially begin the Mike Rhoades era of Nittany Lion basketball on the court until later in the fall, but the program will come together for a fun international experience this August to get a jump on coming together as a team. Penn State announced its men’s basketball team will be making an international trip to the Bahamas this August for at least two exhibition games.
Penn State will travel to the Baha Mar Resort in Nassau from August 6-13 to work and practice together, play a couple of exhibition games against teams to be determined later, and maybe catch a few sun rays while they can. For a program with so many new faces and a new head coach, an opportunity to take a trip like this before the season begins is a luxury.
“What a perfect time for our basketball family to have a foreign trip to the Bahamas,” head coach Mike Rhoades said in a released statement. “This valuable time to work and play together during a foreign trip will help us as we move into our first season together. The trip will allow us practice time prior to our departure and game experience that can set the tone as we move forward.”
Teams are allowed to take an international trip like this every four years. Penn State also visited the Bahamas in 2017 and made a three-country European trip to Belgium, France, and England back in 2013.
