The Arizona Cardinals are believed to be open to trading the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. At least six teams have reportedly inquired about trading up to No. 3.
In a recent mock draft by the writers of the USA TODAY NFL Wire, the Cardinals traded back to the 11th overall pick, swapping with the Tennessee Titans.
The compensation was based on the 2021 trade the San Francisco 49ers made to move up from No. 12 to No. 3 to draft quarterback Trey Lance.
In addition to swapping picks in the 2021 draft, the 49ers gave up their 2022 first-round pick, their 2022 third-round pick and their 2023 first-round pick.
They gave up two future firsts and a future third.
In the mock draft trade with the Titans, in the swap of No. 3 and No. 11, the Cardinals receive:
- the Titans’ 2023 second-round pick
- the Titans’ 2024 first-round pick
- the Titans’ 2025 second-round pick
Instead of two future firsts and a future third, the Cardinals get a current second, a future first and a future second.
The Cardinals would not make a trade without getting additional picks in this draft. The current second (which is worth more than the future third the 49ers gave up) means a future second instead of a second future first.
Is this enough to move all the way back to No. 11 overall?
