The Auburn Tigers ended the 2022-23 season with a loss in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Houston in the round of 32. As the program begins to transition to the offseason, Auburn Wire will take time to reflect on the season that was by highlighting the accomplishments of this year’s team.
Our next year-in-review spotlight player is freshman guard [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag].
Donaldson was at a crossroads out of high school, with both roads leading to possible success. He decided to take the basketball route by signing with Auburn as a member of the 2022 class. He was a four-star guard out of the Florida State University School in Tallahassee, Florida, and was the No. 21 point guard in the nation. As a football recruit, Donaldson was the No. 23 safety in the country and was also considered a four-star.
The good news for Auburn, Donaldson elected to play basketball. He saw significant action in his first season on the Plains by playing in 32 games in a bench role. He averaged 2.5 points per game and connected on 38.4% of his shots from the field.
His best performance of the season was in Auburn’s 74-71 loss to USC in Los Angeles in December, where he scored 12 points and recorded four steals. He reached double figures in points one other time this season, he scored 11 points in Auburn’s first-round win over Iowa.
