Tigers a longshot to win rivalry matchup on Wednesday per ESPN odds

Things are looking grim for Auburn basketball’s latest matchup.

The forecast doesn’t look great for the Auburn Tigers’ basketball team on Wednesday.

ESPN’s BPI hasn’t had Bruce Pearl’s squad favored in a bit, and that certainly won’t change with the team’s latest matchup. The Tigers are set to face off against their arch-rivals in the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide, and projections from BPI have things looking grim for Auburn — ESPN gives the Tigers a measly 12.1% chance to emerge victorious on Wednesday.

This isn’t likely to surprise many, though. Auburn has lost five of its last seven games and is only two games above .500 in the conference, while Alabama is No. 2 in the nation and has won seven of its last eight matchups. On top of that, BPI often favors the home boost, so the game taking place at Alabama’s Coleman Coliseum doesn’t help matters for the Tigers.

The last time the two squads played on Feb. 11, Auburn kept it close with the Crimson Tide and ended up even with them at the half, but Alabama was able to pull ahead in the second frame and win by eight points at the Tigers’ own Neville Arena. Auburn will try to prevent history from repeating itself on Wednesday, but the path to doing so will be much harder this time around.
