Texas OT Kelvin Banks among 247Sports’ players set to emerge as superstars in 2023

“There’s a world in which Banks emerges as the best tackle in college football by the end of the 2023 season.”

Texas left tackle Kelvin Banks shined as a true freshman last season.

Banks started all 13 games for the Longhorns in 2022, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors by both the Big 12 Conference and Associated Press. The former five-star prospect was also considered an honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.

He is now considered one of college football’s emerging superstars for the 2023 season according to Chris Hummer of 247Sports. Hummer has extremely high praise for Texas’ left tackle of the future.

A brick wall on Quinn Ewers’ blindside during the 2022 season, Kelvin Banks had arguably the best true freshman season by a tackle since Penei Sewell. Banks allowed only two sacks and 12 pressures, holding up in high-profile battles against the likes of Will Anderson, Will McDonald and Felix Anudike-Uzomah (he didn’t allow a sack against any of them). Offensive linemen only get better over time as they refine their technique and gain strength. There’s a world in which Banks emerges as the best tackle in college football by the end of the 2023 season.
