With one game left in the regular season and their team already out of the playoffs, fans of the New York Jets have already begun looking ahead to the offseason and keeping an eye on the draft order to see where the Jets will be selecting when the NFL draft comes around April 27-29 in Kansas City.
Entering Sunday, the Jets currently hold the No. 13 pick, via Tankathon. The Saints (whose pick goes to the Eagles) and Browns also sit at 7-9 but the Jets have the strongest schedule among those three teams.
With the Titans losing to the Jaguars Saturday night to finish 7-10, the Jets cannot get into the top ten when the draft order for the non-playoff teams is finalized after Sunday. They can reach as high as No. 11. Even if the Falcons (No. 8) and Panthers (No. 9) both win to get to 7-10, they will also have easier schedules than the Jets, assuring higher picks.
New York can get to No. 11 if they lose to the Dolphins and the Saints (vs. Panthers) and Browns (at Steelers) both win.
A win would mean the highest the Jets can pick is 13th but could also drop the Jets as low as No. 17 with the right combination of results behind them.
The Jets will know for sure once the clock hits zero in Green Bay and could be clear even before then. Once that happens, let the mock drafting begin.
