The long-awaited news has come. Sooners star wide receiver [autotag]Marvin Mims[/autotag] has declared for the 2023 NFL draft, according to a report from ESPN’s Matt Miller.
For the third season in a row, Mims led the Sooners in receiving yards. In 2022, he posted his first 1,000-yard season with 54 receptions, 1,083 yards, and six touchdowns. He averaged 20.1 yards per reception.
In his three seasons with the Sooners, Marvin Mims caught 123 passes for 2,398 yards and 20 touchdowns. He averaged 19.5 yards per reception over three seasons.
Oklahoma’s deep threat was a weapon in the passing game. Mims was really good at getting behind defensive backs and winning down the field. He was also fantastic in contested catch situations.

Arguably his biggest moment came in the 2021 Red River Showdown, where he caught two 50-50 deep balls from Caleb Williams that helped the Sooners overcome their huge halftime deficit. In Oklahoma’s improbable win, Mims caught five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2022, he had the two most productive games of his career. Against Kent State, Mims had seven receptions for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He nearly matched that in the first half against Texas Tech when he went for five receptions, 162 yards, and two touchdowns. His only target in the second half was call back due to a penalty and the fact that he didn’t have a reception after halftime is one of the glaring notes from the loss to the Red Raiders.
Marvin Mims is going to have a fantastic NFL career. He has a chance to be a top 60 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. In a recent mock from The Draft Network, Marvin Mims went No. 58 to the Dallas Cowboys.
His ability to create big plays in the passing game and ability in contested catch situations will make him an attractive option for NFL teams.
Mims departure opens the door for Jalil Farooq, Nic Anderson, and Jayden Gibson to see an increased role in the Oklahoma Sooners passing game.
