Here’s how Chiefs can clinch AFC West division in Week 14

The #Chiefs can clinch the AFC West division title in Week 14, but they’re going to need some help from the #Dolphins.

The Kansas City Chiefs can clinch their seventh consecutive AFC West division title in Week 14, but they’re going to need a little bit of help to do it.

Only two things must happen for the Chiefs to be declared AFC West winners in Week 14. First, they have to take care of business against the 3-9 Denver Broncos on the road at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium. That seems to be the likeliest part of the equation given that Kansas City has won 13 consecutive games against Denver.

The second thing the Chiefs need to happen is to get a little help from another team — the same team that helped them clinch the No. 2 seed and secure a bye week during their Super Bowl LIV run. If the Miami Dolphins beat the Los Angeles Chargers on “Sunday Night Football” and K.C. serves Denver their 10th loss of the season, the AFC West will officially be clinched in Week 14. It’s not the most unreasonable playoff-clinching scenario, especially given that the Chargers and Dolphins are both coming off of Week 13 losses.

Should the Chiefs clinch the AFC West, they’ll become the first team in division history to ever win the division seven times in a row. Whether that happens in Week 14 remains to be seen. Only one opponent left on the remaining schedule for Kansas City has a winning record.

Another note: Miami can also help Kansas City regain the NFL’s No. 1 seed in Week 15, when they face the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, Dec. 17.
