Michigan State hockey gets thumped by Minnesota

MSU drops game one against Minnesota, will look to get revenge on Saturday

No. 13 Michigan State is playing host the No. 4 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers for the top spot in the Big Ten at Munn Ice Arena this weekend.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, game one went the exact opposite of how they wanted it to. Minnesota thumped the Spartans en route to a 5-0 victory on Friday night.

Spartan goaltender Dylan St. Cyr stood on his head early, and did everything he could to keep his team in the game. St. Cyr made 11-of-12 saves in the first period and 10 saves on 11 shots in the second frame.

Michigan State trailed 2-0 heading into the third and weren’t able to do much more, surrendering three goals in the third to lose 5-0.

Michigan State will get a chance at revenge on Saturday, when they meet the Golden Gophers at Munn Ice Arena at 6pm.
