NEW YORK–The Philadelphia 76ers were able to earn a 127-108 preseason road win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday despite sitting Joel Embiid, James Harden, and PJ Tucker in the matchup.
They got a big night out of Tyrese Maxey, but they also got some help from Isaiah Joe who hopped off the bench and contributed.
Joe knocked down three triples on six attempts to finish with nine points on the night. That is the type of production that Philadelphia will need from him on a nightly basis and entering his third season, it’s about time he steps up and provides some offense for the team.
“Just staying composed and letting the game come to me,” Joe said after the win. “I feel like my teammates did a good job of finding me out there and it’s my job to be able to knock down a shot so just continue to play for one another, continue to get to the open spots and knock it down whenever you see me.”
As Joe heads into his third season, there is a lot of pressure on Joe to step up and contribute. His contract does not become fully guaranteed until opening night and he will have to earn that guaranteed contract with some solid play on both ends of the floor.
The positive aspect for him at the moment is that the game is beginning to slow down for him.
“I definitely feel a lot more composed,” he added. “It felt like the game was really slow. As long as the game has slowed down, it’s gonna come natural. Third year being here, it felt like I know what’s going on out there and just once I get out there, it’s about having confidence.”
Joe and the Sixers will now move on to face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday in the second of four preseason games.
