Kansas City Chiefs rookie RB Isiah Pacheco has been turning some heads at training camp practices.
As he’s earned an increased number of repetitions with the first-team offense, many believe the rookie is primed for a big role in Kansas City in 2022. Dave Toub has already said he’ll have every chance to earn the starting kick returner job. But what does the face of the franchise think about this young player and his ability to contribute on offense?
Even though Patrick Mahomes has yet to see him play in a game, he thinks Pacheco has the right combination of tools to contribute.
“Yeah, I mean he’s physically gifted,” Mahomes said. “He’s a smart player. He practices really hard. I mean, he’s big and fast. When you’re big and fast and smart, usually good things happen.”
What is Mahomes looking to see from Pacheco during the course of the preseason? He wants to see the rookie put everything together and showcase his talents against an opponent with live tackling.
“It’ll be good to see him now have to show off his vision, whenever we’re tackling, making those cuts and then getting vertical and showing off that speed,” Mahomes said. “He has all of the physical tools. He’s been mentally great at practice, so it’ll be exciting to see him in a game where he gets to go out there and make stuff happen.”
If Pacheco can accomplish what Mahomes described, he’ll be in a good position to contribute during the 2022 NFL season.
