Notre Dame baseball to face powerhouse Tennessee in Super Regional

What tho the odds…

For the first time in program history the Notre Dame baseball team is headed to their second-straight Super Regional appearance.  This comes after the Irish beat Texas Tech for a second time in three days and won the Statesboro region with a 3-0 record.

Next up for the Irish is now a date with the runaway favorites to win the entire College World Series this year, Tennessee.

Just how good are the Vols?

They’ve gone an absurd 56-7 on the year after putting up a 25-5 mark in SEC play.  They haven’t lost since May 14 and have nine players who have hit 10 or more home runs this year.  Their pitching isn’t half bad either as their three main starters combined to go 25-2 with all having an ERA below 2.70 this year.

Notre Dame’s football program ended Oklahoma’s 47-game winning streak way back in 1957.

Digger Phelps led the Irish to an upset of UCLA in 1974 that ended the Bruins 89-game winning streak.

An 11 game winning streak isn’t quite as impressive as those two but there is no doubt that nobody outside of South Bend will be picking the Irish in the best-of-three series to decide a berth in the College World Series.

If you need me I’ll be watching the speech from “Miracle” for the majority of the week.

“What tho the odds be great or small,
ole Notre Dame will win overall”
