TORONTO–The Philadelphia 76ers had a chance to sweep the Toronto Raptors and move on to Round 2 on Saturday, but they were not able to get into a rhythm and therefore fell in Toronto 110-102. The series will now shift back to Philadelphia in Game 5.
The Sixers lost their cool a bit as they were upset with the way the game was officiated. Philadelphia took 25 free throws compared to 35 for the Raptors and the Sixers were called for six more fouls.
Coach Doc Rivers believed that his team could not overcome the officiating in this one as they let them get in their head. Georges Niang fouled out in 22 minutes, Joel Embiid had four fouls, and Tobias Harris had five.
“Give them credit, they played hard, they played physical,” said Rivers. “I thought we complained too much tonight (Saturday). We just gotta go play.”
Embiid was also called for a technical foul and Toronto’s OG Anunoby also got a tech when he got into a shoving match with the big fella. The Sixers just were not able to keep their composure.
“We for sure lost our cool on some of those calls,” said Harris. “100% so we gotta eliminate pushing our energy out towards that and just play ball.”
Philadelphia will now look to close out the Raptors in their next chance in Game 5 back at home on Monday.
