The Brooklyn Nets received some encouraging news on Sunday when it was announced that, barring any spikes in cases, New York City will lift their vaccine mandate required for indoor spaces in the city on March 7. This would almost certainly clear the way for Kyrie Irving to play at home again.
However, there appears to be a catch that would still prevent Irving from playing at Barclays Center.
Per Shams Charania of The Athletic and The Stadium, Irving would still be unable to play at home due to the private sector vaccine mandate. That requires private businesses to ban all unvaccinated employees which, unfortunately for the Nets, includes Irving. He can, however, at least be with the team on the bench now during home games.
New York City will lift Key2NYC vaccine mandate on March 7, assuming numbers stay on track, per Mayor Eric Adams.
But: I'm told the private sector mandate still restricts Kyrie Irving from playing in home games, although he could enter Barclays Center as spectator.

One can expect that if things do continue to move in the right direction that New York City will lift this mandate as well, but for now, Irving is still barred from playing at home. With only so much time left before the playoffs in mid-April, the Nets better hope things change sooner rather than later.
